Boonton was originally called Boone-Towne when it was settled in 1761, named in honor of Colonial Governor Thomas Boone. That founding gives the town one of the longer histories in Morris County. Today Boonton is home to more than 8,800 residents, a population that has grown while keeping the small-town character that defines it.
